Ohiopyle rewards a weekend, but it is unusually forgiving of a short visit, because the three best-known things in the park sit within a few minutes of each other and none of them need a hike.
This is the version to run if you have a morning, or if you are breaking up the drive, or if you are already coming to the area for Fallingwater and want to see why everyone talks about the park next door.
The plan
First 45 minutes
Ohiopyle Falls
Park at the Falls Area Visitor Center and walk two minutes to the observation decks. A twenty-foot falls across the full width of the Youghiogheny, from three angles. If you only do one thing here, do this one.
Tip: The visitor center has the restrooms. There is nowhere better in town.
Next hour
Cucumber Falls
Five minutes by car, or a short walk if the small lot is full. Down the steps into the gorge to a thirty-foot bridal-veil falls you can walk behind. This is the photograph people come for.
Tip: Wet steps year-round, icy in winter. Shoes with grip.
Last hour
Meadow Run natural waterslides, or Baughman Rock
Pick by weather. Warm day: the natural waterslides, a few minutes from the road, and get in. Cold or wet day: drive up to Baughman Rock Vista for the whole gorge in one view, three minutes from the car.
Tip: Both are short walks. Neither needs any gear you would not already have.

Swap Cucumber Falls for Cucumber Run picnic area and the low bridge. Both are flat and a minute from a parking lot.

Can you see Ohiopyle in a few hours?
Yes. Ohiopyle Falls, Cucumber Falls and the natural waterslides sit within a few minutes of each other and none of them requires more than a short walk from a parking lot. Three hours covers all three comfortably.
What is the one thing to see at Ohiopyle if you only have time for one?
Cucumber Falls, if you want the photograph. A thirty-foot bridal-veil falls you can walk behind, reached by a short staircase. Ohiopyle Falls if you want the least walking, since it is a two-minute paved stroll from the visitor center parking lot.
Is Ohiopyle a good stop on the way to Fallingwater?
It is the natural pairing. Fallingwater is about twenty minutes north, and a lot of visitors do the house tour and the park on the same day. Three hours in Ohiopyle slots either side of a tour without rushing.

- One Perfect Day in Ohiopyle. Ohiopyle is small enough to see properly in a day and busy enough to ruin that day if you arrive at eleven and try to park. This is the order that works.

- Memorial Day Weekend in Ohiopyle. The season opener. Big water, loud waterfalls, and swimming that is colder than people expect. Plan for spring, not for summer.
