Privacy, Accessibility & Disclosure

Last updated August 11, 2026

Ohiopyle.org is a small, independently run guide to Ohiopyle State Park. This page covers what we collect, what we do with it, how the site handles accessibility, and how we make money. If anything here is unclear, email contact@ohiopyle.org.

What we collect

Your email address, only if you give it to us. That happens in one of two places: the newsletter signup, or when you unlock a printable trip plan. When you do, we store the address along with the page you were on, what you unlocked, the date, the site that referred you, and your browser's user-agent string. That context exists so we know which pages are worth writing more of.

Anonymous usage statistics. The site uses Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages people read. We do not use it to identify individuals.

We do not ask for your name, address, phone number or payment details, and there is nothing on this site that collects them.

What we do with it

We email you. That is the entire purpose. River conditions, closures and what's open, before busy weekends. We do not email daily, and we do not email for the sake of it.

We never sell, rent or share your email address. It is not passed to advertisers, outfitters, tour operators or anyone else.

Who else handles your data

  • Netlify hosts the site and stores the subscriber list.
  • Kit holds the list and delivers the email. They see your address because they have to in order to send to it, and they handle the unsubscribe link.
  • Google Analytics receives anonymous page-view data.

Live weather and river readings on the conditions page come from Open-Meteo and the USGS. Your browser requests those directly; we do not send them anything about you.

Getting removed

Every email we send has a one-click unsubscribe link in the footer, and mail apps like Gmail and Outlook can unsubscribe you without opening the message. Either one takes you off the list immediately.

If you want your record deleted outright rather than marked unsubscribed, email contact@ohiopyle.org and we'll remove it. You can also ask what we hold about you and we'll tell you.

Cookies

The site sets no advertising or tracking cookies. Google Analytics sets its own. If you unlock a printable plan, your browser remembers that locally so you are not asked twice. That is stored on your device, not sent to us.

Accessibility

This site is built to meet WCAG 2.1 Level AA. In practice that means every image carries alternative text, color contrast passes at AA across the palette, headings run in order without skipping levels, everything works by keyboard with a visible focus outline, and anything that moves can be paused.

Automated testing catches maybe a third of what matters, so if you hit something that does not work with a screen reader, a keyboard, magnification or any other assistive technology, please tell us at contact@ohiopyle.org. Say what page you were on and what happened, and we will fix it.

How we make money

Some links to rafting trips are affiliate links, which means we may earn a commission if you book through them, at no extra cost to you. That is said again next to the links themselves and in the footer of every page, because a disclosure filed away on this page is not really a disclosure.

It does not change what we write. The outfitter comparison lists all four licensed Ohiopyle outfitters, none of them pays to appear, and none of them has any say in what it says about them.

Using this site

Everything here is published in good faith and kept current, but conditions in a state park change faster than any website. River levels, trail closures, opening hours and prices move. Check current conditions and the park's own alerts before you rely on anything, and use your own judgment on the water and on the trail.

Changes

If this page changes materially we will update the date at the top. Continuing to use the site after that means you are fine with it.
